Throwback Thursday: Feast Foods

Detail from Still Life with Meat, Fish, Vegetables, and Fruit
Back in the day we used to chow down on pigs feet using the bones as handles. And we didn't care if butterflies landed on them, either.

Forest Grove Police Log excerpt, 30 January 2019

This week's selection from the log of local police activity brings us a tale of misuse of emergency resources.
Friday, Jan. 18
• A man called 9-1-1 to report a vehicle blocking his driveway. As officers were tied up with another incident, the man again called 9-1-1 to report that a man was slumped over inside the vehicle. When an officer arrived and found the vehicle empty, the man advised he had made up the story to get a faster response. Police provided a stern lecture about misuse of emergency dispatch, after which the unhappy man then called 9-1-1 to complain about the officer. In total, the man called 9-1-1 five times regarding a parking issue that was resolved by knocking on the neighbor's door. He was arrested.
If you're too stupid to figure it out after having it explained to you, perhaps you're not cut out for polite society.

Throwback Thursday: Reading Garnered an Audience

Detail from Le livre des trois vertus
There was a time when reading was so important that you could get an audience just to do it. One that included at least four royals, and several other people as well. Sadly, we've moved to a different idea of important things these days.

Forest Grove Police Log excerpt, 23 January 2019

The selection from the log of local police activity this week is about religious bigotry.
Friday, Jan. 11*A caller reported that neighbor children were in danger because their parents were practicing Mormons.
I would like to know a little more about how this call went. I do hope they were told that this was not grounds for concern about the children.

Throwback Thursday: Smug Killer

Detail from The Martyrdom of Saint Denis
The look on this guy's face is priceless. He's so pleased with himself after hacking off the heads of those two guys down below. He seems confident that he will not face any problems over this.

Forest Grove Police Log excerpt, 17 January 2019

The selection from the log of local police activity for this week is about someone I'd rather not meet.
Tuesday, Jan. 8*A caller reported a man at the local library with his pants down. Police contacted the man, who denied dropping his trousers but admitted to urinating in the driveway. He was advised to use a restroom next time. Police later arrested the man after he was found at a location from which he had previously been banned, enjoying some Chinese food he neglected to pay for.
I don't know what to say about this. It's just so bad I don't want to think about it anymore.

Throwback Thursday: Interesting Head Wear

Detail from Das Leiden unsers Herren Jhesu Christi
These folks made some bold choices in head wear. The dude with two plumed wings on a high domed hat immediately grabs your attention, but then you see the bloke with the conical hat standing next to the guy with the green bulb on his head. They must be something like the three leaders of head wear fashion in their day.

Forest Grove Police Log excerpt, 9 January 2019

This week's selection from the log of local police activity is a bit confusing.
Thursday, Jan. 3• A caller reported that they had used the restroom at a local museum and had been locked inside the building.
I am only aware of one museum in town, but I haven't been there. I am unsure how you get locked inside it though. It's a small museum, and I wouldn't expect a docent to forget how many people were inside, or lose track of someone who had gone to the restroom. Acceptable reason to call the police though. As long as they called the nonemergency line though.

Forest Grove Police Log excerpt, 2 January 2019

This week's selection from the log of local police activity is a tale about a football move against a snowman.
Saturday, Dec. 22• A man reported two men had parked in front of his house and that one ran toward his 6-foot-tall inflatable snowman, tackled it, put it in the car and drove away. Security footage was obtained and officers are investigating.
I am unsure what the motivation to steal a Christmas inflatable would be, let alone why you would have to tackle one. I can understand the motivation of the victim in calling the police, but I suspect the police have more important matters to attend to.
