Observations from an IRWS owner living in Oregon.
Dec. 14 - A landlord reported that a tenant who had been evicted had rigged the oven to start a fire. Officers determined the oven to simply be in need of a good scrub. - A woman reported that her mail had been sent to an old address and the former roommate was refusing to return it. After a little investigation, officers learned that the woman had not actually taken any steps to retrieve the mail, but wanted the roommate to deliver it. Officers advised her to pick up the mail.A landlord who cannot distinguish a dirty oven from a boobytrapped oven? I don't know how poor of an opinion you have to have of your former renters to assume malice when it could just be that they are slovenly. Also a tale of a lazy woman who expects to receive everything simply for existing. How entitled can you be?
December 5* Officers contacted a man seen making a scene and pushing shopping carts into a busy intersection. The man stated he was simply having a bad day and wanted to leave Forest Grove. Officers provided him with a bus pass.I so wish I had heard of this prior to reading about it here, or perhaps had even witnessed it. I'm also glad that our city is so accommodating of people desiring to leave.
November 26* Police received multiple reports of a man acting belligerently and aggressively at various locations along Pacific Avenue, including reports of threats, intimidation and indecent exposure. Officers were able to locate the man in a local business and ultimately arrested him for offensive littering after the officers witnessed him throw garbage on the ground and not pick it up.It's good to know that if I go on a belligerent, aggressive tirade through downtown Forest Grove, all I have to do to avoid an arrest is to not engage in "offensive littering".
Nov. 17 - Officers contacted a man seen talking to a shrub near a shopping center. The man explained that he was looking for sniper positions while waiting for the bus. Police contacted the same man sometime later for activating a flashing cross-walk at random, blocking traffic on a busy street. He was instructed to cease and desist, which he did without incident.Some weeks are more interesting than others. This was the best entry for this week. I can think of completely benign reasons for these activities, but it is much more likely that this individual is malicious, or suffering from mental health issues.
November 11* A woman flagged down an officer to report that a cult was operating in a nearby field and had left bodies and blood scattered in the area. Officers initially found nothing unusual in the area, however they followed up with the woman on a second call and found her wearing a surgical mask and holding a bag full of what were later determined to be animal bones. They determined no crime had occurred.This woman was so determined that the police investigate this cult, that she was either collecting evidence herself, or planting it. I don't know which, but the conclusion that no crime had occurred leads me to think that she was planting evidence for the police to investigate.
Nov. 4
- A hotel employee called police after finding what appeared to be drugs while cleaning a room. Officers tested the substance and identified it as sugar; it was disposed of.
Nov. 6
- A church reported that the lock on their message board had been broken and the words changed from a religious exhortation to "Satin lives."
October 27* A woman came into the police department to report that her neighbors had said rude things to her. Officers explained that while impolite, it is not against the law to be rude to others.I didn't expect it to be different, and I do hope for a more congenial world, but I am glad that rudeness is not illegal.
