#APicADay 2020: Day 182

I was able to go for a brief walk this evening. However, I hadn't changed the camera battery even though I knew that it was low, and each time I pressed the shutter, the camera would turn off. So, I had to be judicious in the selection of images today. Only one shutter release per subject.
Today's image:
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 55mm, f/4.0, 1/50 s, and ISO 160
I don't know the name of these, but the scene was striking.
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 50mm, f/4.0, 1/60 s, and ISO 160
A day lily, I believe. I just forget what type of lily it was.
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 44mm, f/4.0, 1/58 s, and ISO 160
These calla lilies are at the neighbors' home.

#APicADay 2020: Day 181

No walking today, but there is a calla lily in our flower bed that I haven't previously photographed.
Today's image:
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 46mm, f/4.0, 1/38 s, and ISO 160
The light was coming over the top of our house to illuminate this little bloom.

#APicADay 2020: Day 180

I did get to take a little walk today.
Today's image:
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 55mm, f/4.0, 1/400 s, and ISO 2000
This is a day lily over at a neighbor's home. I have been noticing this year just how many different kinds of day lilies there are. My bias against them came from assuming the coloration I had seen in them while I lived in Utah was the only variety available.
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 55mm, f/4.0, 1/180 s, and ISO 160
I don't know what this is, but I saw it in a front yard in a flower bed above a retaining wall.
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 55mm, f/4.0, 1/800 s, and ISO 160
This gladiola was displaying a variety of bloom stages. I tried to capture the whole spray.
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 55mm, 1/180 s, and ISO 160
I don't know what kind of flowers these small button like yellow things are.

#APicADay 2020: Day 179

I only took a short walk today.
Today's image:
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 36mm, f/3.6, 1/105 s, and ISO 160
This is one of the lilies we have growing in our flower bed out front.
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 55mm, f/4.0, 1/125 s, and ISO 160
 Another of our lilies.
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 42mm, f/4.0, 1/210 s, and ISO 160
And this is a day lily in the neighbors' yard.
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 46mm, f/4.0, 1/50 s, and ISO 160
I don't know what type of flower this is. The leaves make me think it is a daisy of some kind.
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 55mm, f/4.0, 1/160 s, and ISO 160
And there are hydrangeas blooming all over the place.
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 41mm, f/9.0, 1/7 s, and ISO 160
This is just a picture of a stone wall to use as a texture.

#APicADay 2020: Day 178

I did go on a brief walk today. There are plans for in a little bit, and I need to get this done right now.
Today's image:
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 55mm, f/4.0, 1/120 s, and ISO 160
Crocosmia are beginning to bloom all around. The ones in our flower bed have not really come in yet, but they're all over the neighborhood.
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 34mm, f/3.6, 1/170 s, and ISO 160
And gladiolas are also beginning to bloom. Ours are just budding, and I was a bit surprised to see this one blooming already.

#APicADay 2020: Day 177

No walking today. Just another picture of one of the same lilies from yesterday.
Today's image:
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 34mm, f/3.6, 1/42 s, and ISO 160
This is the amount of change you can see in a single day. From mostly closed, to fully open.

[This is from a man I generally disagree with. But I will not fall to the genetic fallacy. What he said is true.]

#APicADay 2020: Day 176

I didn't go for a walk on my own today, but I took The pup on a little impromptu walk when I went out to the parking strip to take pictures of our newly blooming lilies.
Today's image:
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 55mm, f/4.0, 1/28 s, and ISO 160
I like the look of oak leaves.
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 34mm, f/3.6, 1/58 s, and ISO 160
Our calla lilies continue to bloom.
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 55mm, f/4.0, 1/90 s, and ISO 160
Our lilies are just beginning to open up.
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 36mm, f/3.6, 1/25 s, and ISO 160
I don't know what these are, but I noticed them last night.
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 39mm, f/3.6, 1/50 s, and ISO 160
More of those flowers.

Forest Grove Police Log excerpt, 24 June 2020

The selection from the log of local police activity for the week is a bit macabre.
June 17
A caller reported they had found a very large, fresh bone and wanted to ensure it was not from a human. It wasn’t.
I'm uncertain why the police would be the experts you'd contact to determine if a bone was human or not. But there are certainly worse options.

Quote of the Day: 24 June 2020

“[M]aking easier choices now that end up being difficult later is part of human nature.” -You Suck at Cooking
[I don't know what to say about this. It is simply the way things are.]

#APicADay 2020: Day 175

Today was quite hot, for here. 90 degrees. And I went walking in it.
Today's image:
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 46mm, f/4.0, 1/125 s, and ISO 160
Blooming lilies.
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 55mm, f/4.0, 1/1300 s, and ISO 160
 Some other kind of flower.
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 48mm, f/4.0, 1/850 s, and ISO 160
 A pretty dahlia.
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 42mm, f/4.0, 1/550 s, and ISO 160
And more lilies.

[And yet we see so many people engaged in the attempt. How hollow their lives must be.]

#APicADay 2020: Day 174

I went walking earlier while The pup was napping. I had a chance to chase a tiger swallowtail butterfly, but I wasn't fast enough to grab a picture. Too bad.
Today's image:
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 55mm, f/4.0, 1/1250 s, and ISO 160
These geraniums are well past their peak. They are growing at the base of a tree a few houses up the hill from me.
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 46mm, f/4.0, 1/2700 s, and ISO 160
I think this is some kind of a daisy. But I don't know for sure.

#APicADay 2020: Day 173

I got to take the family for a walk this evening. We went to see the cherries on the tree that The pup requested, and to the park where there are thimble berries growing as my wife wanted to do. I got to take my pictures along the way.
Today's image:
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 55mm, f/4.0, 1/210 s, and ISO 160
This sunflower is the first fully bloomed one I've seen this year. Sunflowers really say summer to me.
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 44mm, f/4.0, 1/110 s, and ISO 160
I probably let the shutter drag a little on this exposure. It should have been a bit shorter.
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 55mm, f/4.0, 1/50 s, and ISO 160
This is probably the most vibrant dahlia I have ever seen.

#APicADay 2020: Day 172

We played a game today. Hogwarts Battle.
Today's image:
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 48mm, f/4.0, 1/250 s, and ISO 160
This was shot with on camera flash, bounced off the ceiling.

Quote of the Day: 20 June 2020

“Democracy is a thing which is always breaking down through the complexity of civilisation.” -G. K. Chesterton
[Thankfully we have the guide of history to show us the folly of pure democracy. It is unwise to fully disassociate governance from the will of the people, but to fully embrace it is unwise as well.]

#APicADay 2020: Day 171

I went walking while the children were sleeping, and someone else was able to be the 'responsible adult' present. Nothing important today.
Today's image:
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 55mm, f/4.0, 1/350 s, and ISO 160
These blueberries were a surprise to find in someone's front yard. But they presented a nice subject. And they're not flowers. So, there's that.
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 48mm, f/4.0, 1/1500 s, and ISO 160
This is yet another color variation of a day lily.
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 46mm, f/4.0, 1/240 s, and ISO 160
I don't know what kind of flower this is, but I found this on the day I had left my SD card out of the camera, and went back to take a picture of it today.
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 55mm, f/4.0, 1/1400 s, and ISO 160
And these flowers were intended to be photographed sans little bee, but when it was there, I decided to incorporate it into the composition.

Quote of the Day: 19 June 2020

“[E]ven the ugly parts of history shouldn’t be forgotten. All the people who wanted every reference to the bad things we’d done in the past removed were fools. They were just trying to signal that they were better than their ancestors, but in fact, we’re no different. We’ve just got hindsight and their mistakes to learn from.” -Sarah Hoyt & Larry Correia
[This is not to say that nothing should change about how history is presented. But if we remove all traces, we are far more likely to repeat the mistakes of the past.]

#APicADay 2020: Day 170

I didn't go for a walk today. Instead I mowed the lawn. Which did need to be done. Luckily, our neighbor has some pretty flowers.
Today's image:

Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 55mm, f/4.0, 1/2400 s, and ISO 160
This is just a pretty day lily, with the light hitting it nicely.
Fuji X-T3 with XF 18-55 @ 55mm, f/4.0, 1/120 s, and ISO 160
The light on this lavender was not as bright as the light on the lily was.
