Forest Grove Police Log excerpt, 31 July 2019

The selection from the log of local police activity this week is actually two items from the log.
July 22
A convenience store employee reported that a man wearing a Cookie Monster shirt came into the location in the middle of the night, opened and ate half of a package of cookies, and then left the location without paying. The alleged cookie monster was gone on police arrival.
July 23
The alleged cookie monster came into the FGPD to confess that he had indeed taken a cookie from the convenience store, and that the incident was a misunderstanding. This entry was brought to you by the letters C and T, and the number 3, as in Citation for Theft 3.
I'm grateful I live in a city with a sufficiently low enough level of crime for this to make the police log, as well as that the department has enough of a sense of humor to report it in this manner. I'm also grateful that the perpetrator felt remorse to the point of confessing, and bearing the consequences.

“Many of the most frequent fallacies in economic reasoning come from the propensity, especially marked today, to think in terms of an abstraction—the collectivity, the ‘nation’—and to forget or ignore the individuals who make it up and give it meaning.” -Henry Hazlitt

Forest Grove Police Log excerpt, 24 July 2019

The selection from the log of local police activity this week is about watching the watchers.
July 14
A man called the FGPD to advise he had heard an FGPD detective disregard a call over the police scanner that suggested negligence on part of the officer. After providing an incomplete recap, it was suggested to the man that he might not have the full story on which to base his accusations.
So, someone is paying attention. Whether or not he knows what he's doing or observing is a different question. But someone is watching.

Forest Grove Police Log excerpt, 17 July 2019

The selection from the log of local police activity shows that sometimes slightly more serious matters happen here.
July 10
A caller reported finding the words “I will kill you” written in an unknown substance on the outside wall of her apartment. It was determined to be berry juice and washed off by management.
So, this could be quite serious, or it could be merely a nuisance. But that's why for a thing like this I would involve the police. They are equipped to perform the investigation where I am not.

Tragicomedy If Ever I Saw It

I follow a few webcomics. One of those is Full Frontal Nerdity by Aaron Williams and another is Use Sword On Monster. Because of this I go to his landing page rather than the pages for the individual comics to see if there is a new installment of either. The author has been travelling through the Western US, and posted about some of the travails of travel. I happened to read it, I feel it deserves a larger audience. So, go read the whole thing.

Forest Grove Police Log excerpt, 10 July 2019

This week's selection from the log of local police activity involves America's Most Wanted.
July 1
A caller reported that they were suffering from an injury they believed was caused indirectly by police, further adding that John Walsh, from America’s Most Wanted, was very displeased with the situation. The caller hung up on dispatch and wouldn’t answer their phone when officers attempted contact.
Welcome the the oddity of the small city that is Forest Grove. There's not much else to say about this. I just happen to live in a place that's large enough that stuff like this happens, and small enough that usually nothing more important happens.

Forest Grove Police Log excerpt, 3 July 2019

This week's selection from the log of local police activity is about a pet that escaped containment.
June 24
A caller reported that “Jennifer,” his 5’2” albino California King-snake, escaped overnight, further advising that she was very friendly, loved to give kisses, and was, don’t worry, non-venomous. Jennifer was eventually located and reunited with her grateful owner.
Jennifer seems like an odd choice of name for a snake to me. But what do I know. I'm having a hard time finding a good name for our child that will be born sometime in late November or early December.
