This is a thunder egg. Usually, they are cut in half and the cut surface is polished. This one had the exterior cut away, and the six cut edges were polished. This gives a different view of the interior of a thunder egg. This specimen was given to us by friends a few years ago. Thunder eggs are the state rock of Oregon. You can learn more about them at
